We had a very special day today! In the morning we went to West End to learn about history from a cowboy! Yes, a cowboy from New Jersey. He sung many songs to us and we sang and clapped along. He started with "This Land is Your Land" which is one of our favorite songs! It reminded us of Ms. Savage and music class. Then we learned how to yodle! And, might I add, we have some excellent yodlers in the classroom - Kavon and Ayanna! We were surprised to learn that this cowboy had visited 48 of the 50 states and we all sang "I've Been Everywhere" with him!
We celebrated St. Patrick's Day this afternoon by making Irish Potatoes! We rolled them into small potatoes then rolled them in cinnamon. Next was the best part! We all tasted the Irish Potatoes! And, guess what??? Everyone in the whole class liked them! After we ate the Irish potatoes we did a little bit of school work then had an impromptu party. Selena and her mom brought in cupcakes, Doritos, and juice for us! We enjoyed the nice fresh air and played outside! It was a great day, but we are ready to get back to work tomorrow!

March Goes in like a Lion...
We started the month of March with a snow day, so it certainly came in like a lion. We are really hoping it will go out like a lamb!
Last week we celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday by reading several of his stories and doing some fun activities.
Our poem of the week was an excerpt from "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish" and we all loved reciting it over and over. We even created a file of us reading it!
After we read "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish" we decided to try to create our own rhyming words. Once we completed the rhymes we painted pictures of our creations. They are displayed in our school, along with one of Dr. Seuss's characters from the book.
On Friday we read "Green Eggs and Ham" then enjoyed some! Our preschool buddy class made green eggs and ham earlier in the day and left us the ingredients...cool whip and mint chocolate chip ice cream! Since it was so nice on Friday it was the perfect treat! Pictures will be posted soon showcasing our works of art!
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

January already???
We apologize for no entries in December...it was a very busy month both in and out of the classroom.
Some highlights from the month:
**We created an awesome door for the door decorating contest - we worked together to create a 3D snowman
**Our entire school focused on learning about Holidays around the world - we learned about Italy. We participated in a school wide parade where we displayed pictures of the Italian flag, an Italian boy and girl, and the Italian greeting "Buon Natale" which means Merry Christmas
**On our last day of school in 2008 we participated in a school wide game of JINGO! It was so much fun! We also sang many holiday tunes and painted ornaments for our parents.
**Our Fairytale Friday spanned the entire month with "The Gingerbread Man" We read several different versions of the story, including Gingerbread Fred, Gingerbread Baby, and Gingerbread Friends. We had the opportunity to make our own gingerbread man cookies, pictures and houses.
We came back on Monday and have been learning so much! Even though we enjoyed being off, we really missed being on a regular routine. This week we finished our Gingerbread Man focus by writing a class book about the Gingerbread Man. Stop by our room to see our awesome book and to discover all the things the Gingerbread Man can do!
Even though we did not make New Year's resolutions, we will continue to work hard everyday and try to update you on all of our learning experiences~

We are Thankful...
Last week during COW we created a video of our Thankful Turkeys. We made the turkeys with Mrs. Lenoff during speech and took it to the next level during COW. What a collaborative effort!
Goldilocks and the 3 Bears
Congratulations to Mrs. Birkhead's students on their performance in Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. Our preschool buddy class came to watch as well as Mrs. Henry, and Mrs. Breland. WOW! I think some students might have a future in acting!

We're Panwapa Kids Are you?
This week we have been exploring the site We created our own Panwapa kid, chose our favorite things, and created a house. We have also visited other Panwapa kids around the world. Marissa has a message from a Panwapa kid in Georgia, which is near Russia! Mrs. Birkhead has a friend from Sweden! Tungar, a native of Panwapa, took us on a treasure hunt. On the treasure hunt we had to find people who liked certain activities. It is exciting to check to see if people have visited us - so try to look for us on Panwapa!
We have also been practicing a Reader's Theater of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. We will be performing tomorrow for our Preschool Buddy class. We have spent a long time practicing our lines and making props.
Guess what? We had a pizza party today! It was great. Our pizza party celebrated Billy's great behavior. Mr. Jarrett delivered the pizzas and we all enjoyed the wonderful treat. Keep up the great behavior, Billy, We are so proud of you! Did you know we are going to have another pizza party soon? During red ribbon week we found the most red ribbons, so we will have another surprise pizza party!
